Zitrón awarded Northparkes primary ventilation System upgrade contract

18 October, 2017

Zitrón has been awarded a contract by CMOC Mining Services Pty Limited to upgrade the underground ventilation system at its Northparkes underground mine in New South Wales.

Zitrón’s scope of works will entail the design, manufacture, delivery, construction, installation and commissioning of the upgraded ventilation system, including the aboveground switchroom. Zitrón will be also responsible for all mechanical and electrical works required to test and commission the fans, and for providing training to CMOC Mining Services personnel.

The ventilation system comprises two (2) 2800mm axial fans that will each be fitted to a 900kW motor. With a total installed power of 1.8MW, the Zitrón designed solution will be capable of delivering 400m3/s of fresh air at the specified pressure over the mine lifespan, which is expected to be in excess of 25 years.

The primary fans that will be supplied under the contract will be manufactured in Zitrón’s headquarters in Spain and will be tested in the company’s AMCA-accredited test bench, the largest in the world for axial fan testing.

Work on the contract will commence in October 2017 and is expected to be completed by August, 2018.

Zitrón Australia Managing Director, Javier Fernandez, said: “Zitrón has significant expertise in the underground mining sector and currently has eleven primary mine ventilation projects in Australia. We are pleased to have this opportunity to contribute to the expansion of another major underground mine project in Australia.”
